F-35 Mission = Economic Recovery – Guest Commentary
I am at a loss when I hear opposition to the F-35 Training & Operations mission for Gowen Field & Mountain Home AFB. The facts matter to me!
For instance, the military plans to mitigate & reduce the noise impact for take offs & landings. The F-35 is designed to reduce its need for afterburner on takeoff, which generally should mean less noise than the F-16s we saw in Boise a few weeks ago. Are these complaints about F-35 noise the result of studies done scientifically by a neutral third party?
The fleet that will be stationed will be divided between Gowen & MHAFB. Air Force officials state standard procedure is that about one-third of the fleet should be on the ground each day. If jets fly over residential areas on departure & arrival, routes are controlled by FAA; the time frame for “noise” is a matter of seconds.
I disagree with the notion that property values will fall all due to a military operation & training mission. Property values are affected by economic turndowns, not by the Air Force, which will contribute to the economy. Any opportunity for jobs equals economic recovery. I am proud to support the F-35 personnel & mission for our Valley.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Laurie. The Air Force presence in Boise is a strong economic boost for the Valley.
